Give me a new mama, and I’ll give you a woman that’s likely stressed over how much milk she is making, the quality of her milk, and how to ease her babes tummy pain. (She’s probably spending a lot of time talking about poop right now, too, let’s be honest).
I've gathered here are my top 3 tips to help you increase your milk supply naturally, and fast.
Drink more water.
As breast milk is made from the blood, to increase your supply, you need ensure you are drinking adequate water. Sounds simple, right? But it's definitely easier said than done, especially when you spend hours each day on the lounge with a sleeping babe that you dare not wake......that's hours that youcould be drinking more water!!!......if only you had been more prepared and had it handy.
The thing is, if you aren’t drinking enough water, your supplywillbe affected; but simply drinking enough water doesn't guarantee a large supply of breast milk. Just another way life can be completely unfair!
Hot tip:Invest in a quality water bottle with an in-built straw, and keep it full and on your coffee table (ie. within reach when you're glued to the lounge for hours on end).
Eat more galactogogues
Galactogogue [NOUN}: a food or drug that promotes or increases the flow of a mother's milk.
Galactogogues have been used traditionally to increase milk supply for centuries. Drugs should be the last resort, so I'm going to focus on foods here.
You will likely find many of these ingredients in lactation cookies (I have the most amazing recipe for lactation cookies which I will share soon!), which some women swear by. I personally found lactation cookies amazing....I think the convenience of cookies helps us to consume more calories which alone is enough to support milk production, so coupled with the right ingredients these are an absolute WIN!
100% organic and packed with therapeutic herbs aka 'powerhouse milk producing ingredients' like Fenugreek Seed, Raspberry Leaf, Fennel Seed, Alfalfa Leaf & Caraway Seed this blend is the perfect way to increase your milk supply naturally, and fast!
Best part? This breastfeeding tea tastes amazing as well. (And if it doesn't increase your milk supply, let us know & we'll happily refund you!)
We all know the impact stress has on our body - it affects every body system adversely, and that includes our milk production. So taking some time to look after ourselves mentally in the newborn haze really allows everything else to fall into place.
