    Essential Oils: Potent Plant Medicine
There’s no doubt about it, essential oils (for the most part) smell absolutely divine.
It’s easy to dismiss them just as something that ‘smells nice’, but don’t be fooled – essential oils are so much more than just delicious scents.
Essential oils come from flowers, leaves, bark, herbs, spices, shoots, roots – basically all types of plant matter. They are quite literally the essence of the plant, and their natural purpose range from attracting pollinators, to self-defence against pests.
Most often, essential oils are used as perfumes, however with many offering antibacterial, antifungal & anti-microbial properties, not harnessing their medicinal benefits is seriously underselling them.
In the right concentrations, essential oils and their chemical components can benefit or cause severe harm. Many of the pharmaceuticals you know contain, or attempt to mimic, natural plant compounds.
Beyond physical health, essential oils have also been shown to have an impact on mood, emotions, and psychological wellbeing. Who doesn’t associate the smell of lavender with feeling calm & relaxed?
Smell, more than any other sense, is connected to our memories & emotions. The olfactory nerves connect directly to our limbic system – the part of our nervous system that regulates the physiological processing of emotion. This is why smells can instantly transport us back to another time & place. It’s happened to me, & I’m sure it’s happened to you, too.
    Pretty powerful stuff, right?
Our essential oil blends have been created to not only serve a specific health / therapeutic purpose, but also to invoke a positive emotional response. To do what it says it will do AND smell good? Now that’s the sweet spot!
